Ingredients:
- 1 cup Basmati rice
- 1 inch cinnamon stick
- 1 clove
- 1 cup water or vegetable broth
- 1/2 cup chopped vegetables (peas, carrots, cauliflower, etc.)
- 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Pinch of turmeric powder
- Salt to taste (optional, for mom only)
- 1 bay leaf (optional)
Instructions:
- Rinse the rice and soak for 30 minutes.
- Heat ghee or oil in a pot.
- Add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, clove. and cook until fragrant.
- Once the cumin seeds splutter, add the chopped vegetables, bay leaf (optional) and saute for a couple of minutes.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot along with turmeric, and salt to taste (optional).
- Add water or broth, bring to a boil, then simmer until rice is cooked and fluffy.
- Serve warm.
